2010 Summer Camps

Maefield is gearing up for

Summer Horse Camps!

Camp offers a fun, active alternative to traditional childcare or summer activities.  This year we are pleased to offer our traditional camp, as well as a new option for our older, more experienced riders.  Our traditional camp, detailed here, offers those completely new to horses, as well as intermediate and younger advanced riders, something to fit their needs.

Camps run 9-5* Monday through Friday with a horse show on the last day!

Ages 6 -16; all experience levels are welcome.  Activities will be conducted throughout the day in smaller groups.  Groups will be divided according to experience levels and personal goals and needs of each student.  All groups will have lunch and swimming time together; parents or siblings are welcome to come join us for lunch and swimming.

Camp weeks include:

  • Daily riding lessons, including grooming before and after
  • Some trail rides
  • Horse care, including general interaction as well as presentations of specific aspects, such as farrier and veterinary pratices
  • Games, crafts and other activities
  • Swimming time
  • Lunch and snack times (healthy snacks and drinks provided)

A 2010 camp day at a glance…

In general, the first riding lesson of the day, as well as one interactive lesson and practice in an aspect of horsemanship, takes place in the mornings.  We then break for the hottest part of the day and have lunch and swimming time.  Afternoons generally include another riding lesson or small group trail ride,  games and handcrafts and a presentation by a staff member or a guest speaker.  Each camper will also help administer either the morning or afternoon feed and water to a horse each day.

Our friendly, knowledgeable staff includes professional
horse trainer, certified Pre-K-12 teacher, instructors and certified lifeguard!

Our programs target all aspects of horse care, including grooming, attending to physical needs of each horse and basic nutrition, among others.  Our riding study aims to produce confident, responsible riders and our camps overall offer a glimpse into what it takes to have a horse and work with horses in general.

Whether in the horse world or elsewhere, we emphasize cooperation, positivity and good decision-making and know our campers will carry these qualities to all areas of their lives.
